1.2: NY Worlds Fair site, Queens We began this day seeking PCR tests for COVID-19. We had minimized our exposure to others by staying at B&Bs, making our own meals, and using masks consistently. Since we were vaxxed and boosted, our chances of infection were much lower, but there was some evidence that we might also be more likely to be asymptomatic if we had gotten COVID, in which case we might be unknowingly infectious. In Crown Heights, we waited 90 minutes at the only testing site we could find that was actually open and still had tests. They finally emailed us results (negative) nine days later. For purposes of trying to prevent inadvertent infection of others, it was useless. Finally we were able to get to my cousin Anthony, and I could give him one of the masks I had made! Yay! And we visited the site of the 1939 and 1962 New York Worlds Fair, including the spaceship-towers! Beloved by fans of Men in Black, these towers were certainly in need of repair. The globe, in contrast, looks like new since it is made of stainless steel. I love this structure. < PreviousBack to IndexNext >
